Umbria has always been an important area for the production of white wines. A few kilometers from the historic city of Orvieto, the vineyards of Castello della Sala are surrounded by the rolling hills of this ancient and historically rich territory.
The Pinot Nero, a difficult grape variety but one which is able to enhance every nuance, is a rare exception in Umbria and represents a great and continuous challenge for us. This variety produces a wine capable of expressing the complex and elegant soul of Castello della Sala in a different key, while mantaining its authenticity and typicality.
The sinuous 4 hectares of Pinot Nero vineyards from which the wine is produced lie an altitude of over 400 meters above sea level on calcareous soils rich in fossils with sedimentary sands from the Pliocene epoch. This particular terroir allows the Pinot Nero grapes to enjoy excellent temperature ranges between day and night and to preserve freshness and varietal elegance.
Pinot Nero della Sala’s new vintage, 2017, is now available. Discover the other soul of Castello della Sala on 26 Generazioni Wine Club.
